German Chancellor Friedrich Merz asked American and European partners to start planning the future of Iran and the region, saying that the Iranian people deserve a better future after the American and Israeli attacks killed the country's supreme leader, Reuters and News.ro report.
Friedrich Merz said his government agreed with US goals to end Tehran's nuclear arsenal and end Iran's “destructive game”, but warned of possible dangers ahead.
“This is not without risks. We do not know how much the region will be drawn into the escalation of the conflict by Iran's tough counterattacks,” Merz told reporters.
Stressing that he has some reservations about the actions of the United States and Israel, Merz said that now is not the time to lecture partners and allies, despite doubts.
“We want to collaborate with our partners in the US, Israel, the region and Europe to develop an agenda for tomorrow,” Chancellor Merz said.
Its four goals are to ensure peace and stability in the region, to get Iran to end its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, to contribute to a stable future for Iran, and to help Iranians decide their own destiny.
Merz also said that Germany will not tolerate attacks on American or Israeli institutions in the country.
