What happens to politicians' wealth declarations. Deputy: “It's a sensitive topic for other political formations”

USR has submitted a project to the Parliament that reintroduces the obligation to publish asset declarations. However, the initiative is rejected by the other parties in the coalition, on the grounds that it would not respect the Constitution.

Politicians are no longer required to publish wealth declarations since the middle of last year, when the Constitutional Court ruled that several provisions of the law were unconstitutional.
At the end of last year, the USR proposed an initiative by which the statements would become public again, and the data of the family members appearing in these documents would be anonymized. However, the commission for human rights and the commission for public administration in the Chamber of Deputies approved the initiative negatively. In parallel, the report given by the Legal Commission was postponed.
Cristian Brian, USR deputy, is of the opinion that the initiative will be shelved: “Based on the parliamentary majority and the Commission's interventions, it seems that either it will fail or it will have a rejection report. And if he gets a rejection report, he'll probably leave it. Somehow it is a sensitive topic for other political formations. I think he will not want to put it on the agenda”.
However, he points out the necessity of the project, explaining that the data requested by ANI do not arrive in a timely manner. The project is assumed only by USR, because, apparently, the other parties of the Coalition did not want to contribute, says Cristian Brian.
Another bill
On the other hand, the head of the Commission for Public Administration, Florin Roman, explains to “Adevărul” that the negative opinion given is a standard practice, in the context in which the initiative submitted by USR would not respect the Constitution, according to the National Integrity Agency (ANI), which would come up with another project. But it is not clear when.
“It was correct to say that the ANI told them it was unconstitutional. This is what the ANI representative said. The representative of the institution is invited to this procedure. The lady from ANI introduced them, only she didn't tell them that they wrote badly and only for the eyes of the world. I can't afford to do, to submit bad and populist projects just to go out in the press and say that someone opposed it. The lady from ANI said that they will come as initiators, taking into account the decisions of the Court, with a project to solve this problem”explains the president of the Administration Commission, Florin Roman, for “Adevărul”.
In the commission led by Florin Roman, USR and AUR voted against a negative opinion.
