“Everyone has your salary on the surface. Last year you received 11.7 million UAH. This is before tax. On average 970 thousand per month. Aren’t you ashamed to have such a salary?” – journalist Yanina Sokolova asked Smelyansky.
“No. This, in my opinion, is €15 thousand (about 770 thousand UAH). Before Ukrposhti, I received $50 thousand a month. And something tells me that after Ukrposhti I will probably receive more,” said the head of Ukrposhti.
According to Smelyansky, he is not leaving Ukrposhti because “there are things that are not measured by money.” Smelyansky added that he has signed a contract until the end of martial law plus another 90 days after that. Smelyansky assured that he would leave his post after the completion of the contract.
“I’m definitely not holding on to the position, I just want to complete the reforms,” he assured.

Igor Smelyansky was born in 1975 in Belgorod-Dnestrovskrom Odessa region. He has been heading Ukrposhta for almost 10 years.
In May 2025, Smelyansky reported that his salary as general director of Ukrposhti in 2024 was for the year 11.72 million UAH before tax.
