In Italy, heavy rainfall led to a landslide. A man tried to save his 83-year-old neighbor, but both died

Hundreds of cubic meters of soil, stones and mud from the San Giorgio hill crashed into residential buildings in the Brasano area, forcing some residents to climb to their roofs to escape.

The tragedy claimed the lives of two people. 32-year-old Quirin Kunert tried to save his 83-year-old neighbor Gerrina Skocaj, but they were bombarded with stones. According to witnesses, the man left his wife safe and, together with another resident, hurried to warn neighbors about the danger.

About 300 mm of precipitation fell overnight, which was several times higher than the norm for this period. Local meteorologists noted that this amount of precipitation was extreme. After the landslide, rescue services worked at the site, evacuating people and assessing damage.

The media clarified that the deceased was a German citizen who lived for a long time in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where he was developing the local gastronomic business.
