The Pilot-8 ship, under the Romanian flag, was in a convoy, and following the event the navigable channel was not blocked and no pollution was recorded.
“The ship is currently sunk and the owner has been notified to start salvage within 30 days”said ANR representative, Irina Puşcaşu.
The circumstances in which the event occurred are being investigated by the Tulcea Port Authority
The Pilot-8 ship was built in the Giurgiu Shipyard in 1981 for the Lower Danube River Administration (AFDJ) from Galati, to be used in the activity of embarking/disembarking pilots on board ships on the maritime Danube and at Bara Sulina.
It was used until 2018, and the data made public on the Galata institution's website show that in 2024 the management of the AFDJ put its repair works up for auction.
