The defense ministers of Germany and Ukraine signed an agreement last Friday to send Ukrainian instructors to the German army, dpa informs on Monday, according to Agerpres.
A spokesman for the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) told the agency that “the plan is to incorporate the experience of Ukrainian soldiers in the training of the army, especially in military schools.” The official declined to comment on the details.
The German military is reacting to the considerable changes that have taken place on the battlefields of Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion almost four years ago. Examples of this are the more extensive experience of the Ukrainian forces in the deployment and use of drones in combat and the rapid integration of modern command and control technology into combat units.
The Wall Street Journal wrote last week that a team of about ten Ukrainian guests eliminated numerous armored vehicles and other targets in a very short time during a NATO military exercise last year in the Baltic states. A participant in the maneuvers told the quoted publication that an “enemy” unit led by Estonians with the participation of Ukrainians neutralized “two battalions in one day”, while NATO fighters failed to eliminate the opposing drone teams.
The alliance did not comment on the details of the exercise, but a spokeswoman said scenarios for such maneuvers can be designed to give an advantage to adversaries.
