Landscapers will grow about 500 thousand plants to decorate Krasnoyarsk. There will be new items

Preparations for summer are in full swing in the greenhouses of the Krasnoyarsk Green Building Administration. In total, landscapers plan to grow about 500 thousand plants to decorate the city this season, the mayor’s office said.

The first 150 thousand seeds of the slowest crops – petunias and begonias – were planted in the ground back in January. At first, the boxes were kept indoors, where the required temperature and humidity were maintained. When the sprouts appeared, the containers were transferred to the greenhouse. In the near future they will be ready for picking – transplanting into individual cassettes. This is a very labor-intensive process where each tiny sprout is moved using tweezers and other devices.

“Preparing seedlings is a long-term job, where each plant has its own schedule. We started with petunias and begonias as these crops take longer to germinate. Next, in accordance with agrotechnical deadlines, we will plant other species,” said Vitaly Budarin, head of the department for growing woody, ornamental and flower crops at UZS.

The 2026 planting plan also includes traditional annuals: marigolds, salvia, zinnia, dichondra, lobelia and others. There will also be new items this year – pink celosia and petunia of the Easy Wave Plum Vane variety. For vertical gardening figures, Alternanthera “Tricolor” and “Purple Heart” will be planted, as well as traditional types of sedum.

Flowers will grow in city flower beds, flower beds and flower pots in all areas of the city.

“Despite the fashion for decorating flower beds with perennial plants, cereals and shrubs, city residents always look forward to the appearance of flowering annual plants in the city. In the Siberian sharply continental climate, this tradition helps create a bright mood and a special atmosphere of blooming summer Krasnoyarsk,” the mayor’s office said.
