Violence among teenagers has become an increasingly visible phenomenon in schools in Romania. Cases of physical aggression, intimidation and the use of objects or airsoft weapons have not been new for a long time, and specialists warn that such incidents are a growing phenomenon.

The problems of juvenile violence extend not only inside the educational units, but also in the spaces adjacent to them, and the effects on the students, both as victims and as witnesses, can be long-lasting. In this context, anonymous reporting apps such as “Tell the truth about what's going on at your school” provide a platform for students to report incidents without fear of reprisal, bringing to light situations that might otherwise be ignored.

The incident at the “Mihail Săulescu” Theoretical High School

An extremely serious case recently came to light in Predeal, Brașov county, after a 17-year-old student used the national application “Tell me what's going on at your school” to report a violent incident. According to the anonymous message left by the boy, he was shot in the head with an airsoft gun right inside the high school, reports Radio Romania Braşov.

In addition, the student claims that the incident did not lead to appropriate measures from the school management and attributed the lack of reaction to the fact that the aggressor is the son of a teacher from the educational unit.

What the County School Inspectorate says

The County School Inspectorate (IȘJ) Brașov reported itself after the appearance of the anonymous message.

The institution's spokesperson, Valentin Bucur, confirmed that the incident took place in November 2024, at the “Mihail Săulescu” Theoretical High School in Predeal, and was analyzed by the unit's management.

“Following the investigations carried out, it was found that the event cited by the student took place in November 2024, at the “Mihail Săulescu” Theoretical High School in Predeal. At the same time, the checks revealed that the respective incident came to the attention of the management of the educational unit at the time of its occurrence, being analyzed by the disciplinary committee at the school level.

The reported aspects were recorded in the minutes of the committee meeting, and the proposal to lower the performance grade for the students involved was formulated, according to the legal procedures in force. At the same time, the Police of the city of Predeal were notified and promptly intervened following the notifications made”, sent the spokesperson of IȘJ Brașov, Valentin Bucur.

In this context, the representatives of IȘJ Brașov encouraged the students to use the platform dedicated to them and point out the fact that it is very important that such events are reported immediately after their occurrence.

“We consider it essential that such situations are reported as close as possible to the time of their occurrence. Delayed notifications, as is the case here, can reduce the impact and efficiency of investigations and interventions, limiting the possibility of adopting corrective, quick and appropriate measures”, Valentin Bucur added.

The “Tell the truth what's happening at your school” application remains an important tool for monitoring the phenomenon of violence among students and for preventing serious incidents in educational institutions.
