Robert Kennedy was deadly shot on June 5, 1968 at the Los Angeles Hotel, a few moments after completing a speech after Victoria in the primary elections in California. His assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, is sentenced to life.

Descretized documents include images with written grades of the assassin,

“RFK must be eliminated just like his brother,” Write in a note on an empty envelope with the address of the District Director of Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles.

Sirhan filled a page from a Pasadena City College booklet with variants of the “RFK must die” and “RFK must be killed”. In a note of May 18, 1968 he wrote: “My decision to eliminate RFK becomes an irrepressible obsession.”

In another document, the assassin wrote that he pleads for “rthe presentation of the current president ”. Democrat Lyndon Johnson was at the White House at the time of RFK's death.

“I have no firm plans yet, but soon I will elaborate them“Wrote Sirhan, who promised support for communist Russia and China.

The newly defined documents also include notes from interviews with people who have met Sirhan in a wide variety of contexts, such as classmates, neighbors and work colleagues. While some described him as “a friendly, good and generous person”, others described a meditative and “impressionable” young man, who had strong political beliefs and believed for a short time in mysticism.

According to the files, Sirhan told a garbage man that he was planning to kill Kennedy shortly after Martin Kuther King Jr was assassinated on April 4, 1968. The colleague, a man of color, told him to vote for Kennedy because he thinks he will help the color people.

“Well, I don't agree,” Sirhan replied, the investigators' man told them. “I plan to shoot the bitch son.”

The National Administration of Archives and Evidence has posted 229 files containing the pages on its public site. Many of the assassination files have been published above, but others have not been digitized and have been in federal government deposits for decades.

Trump signed an executive order in January by which he demanded the declassification of government documents related to the assassination of Robert F Kennedy and King, who were killed two months away from each other.

Kennedy's killer lawyers have been advocating for many years for his release, on the grounds that he is unlikely to recur or represent a danger to society. In 2021, a conditional release commission considered that Sirhan could be released. But the governor of California, Gavin Newson, rejected the decision in 2022. In 2023, another complete refused to release, reasoning that he is not aware of what led to Kennedy.

The son of the late senator, Robert F Kennedy Jr, who is now Trump's secretary for health and human services, praised the president and his national information director, Tulsi Gabbard, for what he called “courage” and “sustained efforts” to make public the files.

“Raising the veil from RFK documents is a necessary step towards restoring trust in the US government,” Kennedy Jr said in a statement.
