The United States has set a deadline for Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement to end the war. Washington expects the conflict to end by June this year, said President Volodymyr Zelensky. At the same time, he announced that the next round of trilateral negotiations will take place next week in Miami.

According to the Ukrainian president's statement to international media, the US administration is seeking a quick resolution of the conflict and is imposing a specific action schedule on the parties.

– The Americans propose that the sides (Ukrainian and Russian) end the war at the beginning of this summer, and they will most likely exert pressure in accordance with this schedule. (…) They say they want to finish everything by June. And that they will do everything to end the war, Zelensky said, quoted by Reuters and AP.

The Ukrainian president added that Washington expects a “clear schedule for all actions.” He also suggested that if the June deadline is not met, the US administration will likely increase pressure on both sides of the conflict.

The talks move to the USA

In parallel with the setting of the time frame, the United States is increasing its direct involvement in the peace process. Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the US has proposed organizing the next round of talks in a trilateral format (Ukraine-US-Russia) next week. The meeting place is to be Miami.

– We have confirmed our participation – Zelensky said, emphasizing that this will be the first time that trilateral peace negotiations will be organized on the territory of the United States.

The planned meeting in Miami will be a continuation of negotiations conducted so far on neutral ground. The previous two rounds were held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi (the first on January 23-24, the second last Wednesday and Thursday). Although these talks did not lead to a breakthrough in the form of a cessation of fighting, analysts and the parties to the conflict themselves assessed them as constructive, considering the very fact of conducting them a success.
