“Challenging days lie ahead.” DTEK made a statement about the energy system of Ukraine

“Two thermal power plants of DTEK and key high-voltage substations were damaged. Due to damage to high-voltage substations, nuclear power plants were forced to unload,” the company noted.

According to DTEK, the system operates with maximum restrictions, the usual schedules do not apply.

“The most difficult situation is in Kyiv. Due to prolonged attacks on the infrastructure, there is currently only one and a half to two hours of electricity per day. Difficult days lie ahead,” DTEK noted.

On Sunday, February 8, hourly outage schedules and power limitation schedules will be applied throughout the day, in certain areas until the situation in the energy system stabilizes, and emergency blackouts will continue to be used, Ukrenergo said.

Earlier that day, the company informed that the night attack was the second massive attack by the Russian Federation on the energy sector since the beginning of the year; energy facilities in eight regions came under attack from Russian missiles and drones.

“As a result of the damage caused by the enemy, the power shortage in Ukraine’s energy system has increased significantly. This has led to a forced increase in the duration of hourly outages in all regions,” the message said.
