The impromptu concert of the common jay was captured by the deputy head of the Minusinsk forest fire station, Maxim Dryukov. He managed to catch her while singing a mating song. Footage of the bird appeared online.

The common jay is a forest bird of the corvid family of the order Passeriformes, whose feather plumage effectively combines red-brown, black, white and blue colors. It got its name from the ancient Russian word “soy”, which means “to shine”. The bird perfectly imitates different sounds; it can easily imitate the barking of a dog, the clucking of a chicken, and the bleating of a goat. Her repertoire also includes the sound of dripping water, the ringing of a well chain, or the cutting of a saw on a log.

Jays feed on acorns in places where oak trees grow. If there are no acorns, then berries, seeds, and grains are wasted. For the winter, birds fill the pantries to the brim. They often keep watch near the feeders, scaring away the small birds. In the summer they catch insects and rodents, and also carry other people's chicks and eggs.

During the mating season, males actively court females: they dance, perform serenades and puff up their feathers. If the female agrees to form a pair, she allows the suitor to feed her. In front, the bird crouches on a branch, fluttering its wings, like a chick begging its mother for food.

“In many cultures, the jay is a symbol of superior knowledge, eloquence and precision. Because of its blue wing, people called the bird the soothsayer: people believed that in these small mirrors they could see their future,” the regional Forest Fire Center reported.

Let us remind you that earlier in the Roev Ruchey flora and fauna park, Krasnoyarsk residents were told about the peculiarities of the chameleon’s tongue.
