“Strangled with an apron.” Donetsk boarding school nurses are suspected of negligence leading to death

According to prosecutors, the event occurred in February 2022 while two nurses with more than 10 years of experience were on duty and left children unsupervised.

At that time, one of the workers noticed that the 17-year-old pupil was in an agitated state and was trying to cause bodily harm to herself. However, instead of helping, the health worker “restricted the girl’s movements” and left her in the room with the 15-year-old pupil, and she left.

The UCP noted that we are talking about a group of children with disabilities and severe developmental disorders.

“Due to their health and developmental characteristics, the girls could not independently control their actions and were completely dependent on adults. A conflict arose between them, which ended in tragedy – the younger pupil strangled the older one with an apron,” the report says.

One of the nurses was informed of suspicion, and an indictment was sent to the court against her colleague. Both are accused of improper performance of professional duties, which led to the death of a child (Part 2 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). After the tragedy, both employees quit.
