Antip Vodogon
Antipa Pergamon, whose memory is celebrated on this day, was a student of John the Theologian, a bishop of the Pergamon Church.
The people of Antip was considered a healing of toothache. When the peasant had a tooth, a silver coin was laid on him, after a while it was taken out from his mouth and made a hole in it. After that, the coin was hung on the icon of the Holy Antip. According to legend, the pain should have subsided quickly.
Antipa was also called a water reservoir – since on his day the flood was at the peak itself. People said: “Antip cleans rivers from ice”; “Antip dismissed the water,” because there was almost no ice ice by this time.
However, there were years when the rivers on the Day of Antipa were not even opened – it promised a bad harvest of bread and a dysfunctional summer. If the water spilled widely, you should wait for the fertile year: “There would be water, but bread is born.”
