Trump threatens Canada with a “significant” response if it strikes a trade deal with China

US President Donald Trump warned on Saturday that the United States will have a “considerable” response if Canada signs a trade deal with China, reports Reuters.

The statement was made aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, where Trump told reporters that Washington will not remain passive in the face of a possible economic rapprochement between Ottawa and Beijing.
“If they make a deal with China, we will do something substantial”said the White House leader.
Donald Trump has argued that such a deal would allow China to exert major influence over Canada.
“We don't want China to take over Canada. And if they do the deal they're after, China will take control of Canada.” he stated.
The warning comes after the US president announced last week that he would impose 100% tariffs on Canadian goods if Ottawa signs a trade deal with Beijing.
