Deputy Cristina Prună, former USR spokeswoman, said that the party must return “to what it was”. “USR moved away from what it supported a few years ago, when it won the vote and the trust of the people”, she declared, on Monday, on Antena 3, in the context of the poor score obtained by Cătălin Drula in the elections for the Capital City Hall, of 13.9%, with which he ranked 4th.
Asked if she was referring to Cătălin Drula and Ionuț Moșteanu in the Monday morning post in which she criticized the current situation in the party, Cristina Prună said: “And even to Mr. Fritz, because Mr. Fritz is currently leading the party.”
“Mistakes were made at the level of the USR leadership. It is this Fritz-Moșteanu leadership axis. Now, surely, as I said, I think it is the moment of truth and we can no longer continue like this. We need to return to our values and to correct public policies”, added Cristina Prună.
The USR deputy believes that the party “moved away from what it supported a few years ago, when it won the vote and the trust of the people.”
“Yes, mistakes were made and that's exactly what I'm emphasizing, the fact that in the end we have to return to what we did in the past, to people with presentable CVs, suitable for the positions they aimed for, to a closeness to the people who voted for us”, continued Cristina Prună.
She said that Ionuț Moșteanu, who resigned from the Ministry of Defense after the scandal related to his university studies, “is still in the leadership of the party and certainly supports the decisions that Mr. Fritz proposes and takes”.
“I think we need a reconstruction of the USR and a return to what the USR was, and for that, yes, we need a consultation of wider forums, we need a congress in which we can discuss statutory issues,” the former spokeswoman of the party also declared.
“I don't think there is any question of changing a person”
Asked if she would like the removal of Dominic Fritz from the position of president of USR, Cristina Prună answered: “I don't think there is a question of changing one person or the other from one position or another, especially since at the moment Mr. Fritz has a fairly large majority in the National Office.”
“I think what really needs to be changed is the way USR presents itself as a party in the public space. It needs to get closer to the people, it needs to come up with credible public policies, exactly as I said, and not let us fall into the trap of the other parties, as I said, without people based on meritocratic criteria and without CVs that would do us honor, as we used to do in the past – look at the appointments at the National Bank of Romania and at the Court of Accounts, we have people with solid resumes,” she added.
Cristina Prună was also asked if, in her opinion, the failure of Cătălin Drula was also the failure of President Nicușor Dan.
“I wouldn't say this. I think that Nicușor Dan did what he said, he obtained the support of the USR in exchange for the support of Mr. Cătălin Drula. He did what he knew best,” concluded Cristina Prună.
