Moscow spent about 2% of the Gross Domestic Product of the Republic of Moldova (which represents about 7 billion Moldovan lei) to spoil the 2025 parliamentary elections, according to a statement made by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, during a joint press conference with the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, Deschide.md portal reported, taken over by Agerrpes.
“We estimate that Russia spent almost 2% of Moldova's GDP to taint our parliamentary elections in 2025 – through coordinated information manipulation, cyber attacks, illegal financing of political parties, acts of sabotage, paid protests and deliberate attempts to provoke violence on our streets,” Maia Sandu said in the press conference held in Warsaw, where she is on a working visit, at the invitation of his Polish counterpart.
During three consecutive electoral years, the public institutions, the media and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova firmly resisted a systematic and unprecedented Russian interference, said Maia Sandu, emphasizing that this pressure did not turn the Republic of Moldova off course.

“On the contrary, it strengthened our direction. We accelerated the reforms, strengthened the institutions and aligned ourselves more deeply with the standards of the European Union”, she added.
At the same time, Maia Sandu highlighted Poland's support for strengthening the resilience of the Republic of Moldova, reaffirming the republic's firm commitment to European integration. The Moldovan president emphasized that “accession to the European Union represents the clearest guarantee of security, democracy and freedom for the Republic of Moldova.”
