Drone drifting in the Black Sea
The authorities in Constanța are on the alert, on Monday, after an aerial drone was spotted floating adrift at the entrance to the port of Midia, a short distance from the Capu Midia surface-to-air firing range, where the French Army, the framework country leading the NATO Battle Group in Romania, has installed a Mamba anti-aircraft missile system.
“On Monday, January 26, the Coast Guard discovered, at the entrance to the port of Midia, an object drifting, which indicates a possible fragment of an unmanned vehicle (aerial drone),” reports the Ministry of Defense.
“The soldiers of the 39 Divers Center moved to the maritime district, with the support of the maritime surveillance vessel MAI 3065 belonging to the Coast Guard, in order to be able to accurately determine the nature of the object that may endanger the safety of navigation”, notes the institution.
The port of Midia is a few kilometers offshore from the Capu Midia firing range where French forces have deployed a Mamba anti-aircraft system with Aster missiles.
The large-scale anti-aircraft system is part of the forces of the NATO Battle Group in Romania, a battle group led by France. The NATO Battle Group has around 1,700 soldiers, of which over 100 French soldiers are deployed at Capu Midia.
