Israel and the United States have not set a timetable for a joint military campaign against Iran, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar told Euronews on Sunday.
“So there's no timeline for the operation there. There's no timetable to follow. There's no timetable for this operation. We haven't set a timetable,” Sa'ar said. “Of course, we want the operation to take as little time as possible. That's clear. But we haven't set a timetable,” he added.
The Israeli official explained that this campaign is fully coordinated with Washington and is not Israel's own action.
“It's not that they [Statele Unite] support us They work side by side with us, collaborating to achieve the same goals as us. It is a mutual operation,” he said.
“We do not interfere in the election of the next leader of Iran”
He emphasized that the purpose of the offensive is to counter what he described as long-term threats to Israel while opening up space for change inside Iran.
“I also tell the Iranian people that now they have a chance. They have a chance to regain their freedom, which was denied to them by this criminal regime that repressed them so cruelly. And I hope they will be able to do it,” he said.
Sa'ar said Israel would not try to choose Iran's next leadership. “We are not interfering in the choice of the next leader of Iran. This will be decided by the Iranian people themselves, hopefully in a free election, which would be the best thing that could happen,” he added.
“Our only demand is that whoever comes to power does not act to eliminate the state of Israel. That is enough for us,” he added.
The Israeli minister rejected criticism that the operation violates international law. On Saturday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was among the most vocal critics of what he called an operation that “represents an escalation” for the region.
“This is fully justified by international law, because international law justifies self-defense and someone who swears and acts to eliminate another state. That state should not wait until that happens,” he said.
