12 January 11:46

Specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention told residents the dangers of low physical activity.

A sedentary lifestyle can be a serious factor for the development of various diseases, along with smoking, excess body weight and high blood pressure.

Research shows that lack of physical activity increases the risk of:

  • Coronary heart disease by 30%;
  • Type II diabetes mellitus by 27%;
  • Colon cancer and breast cancer by 21-25%.

To maintain your health and reduce risks, doctors recommend:

  • Engage in at least 150-300 minutes of physical activity per week (or 75-150 minutes of vigorous activity);
  • For additional health benefits, increase your time of moderate physical activity to more than 300 minutes or vigorous activity to more than 150 minutes per week.

“From January 12 to 18, an active lifestyle week has been declared in Russia. This is a great opportunity to think about your health and make positive changes in your life,” added in the center.
