AUR first vice-president Dan Dungaciu increased the influence of his ideas in the party and this move contributed to the withdrawal of several members from the foreground, according to two AUR sources.

“Tell me what's happening to the world, professor?”, was the question with which Marius Tucă opened his show two days ago on “Gândul”, in which he invited the politician Dan Dungaciu.

Dungaciu frequently appears in Marius Tucă's shows. Now, however, it has a different status. On November 30, 2025, at the AUR Congress in which George Simion was reconfirmed as president, Dan Dungaciu was elected first vice-president of the main opposition party in Romania. Until then, Dungaciu was the AUR's foreign policy advisor.

An increasingly powerful voice

According to the description given by two AUR sources, with whom I spoke for this article, Dungaciu's influence in the party gradually increased. Some of the recent voluntary departures from the top of other party leaders, the most famous of them being Gheorghe Piperea, are also correlated with what the sources describe as the clearly anti-European and pro-Russian position of Dan Dungaciu, the new first vice-president of AUR.

“Dan Dungaciu reappeared publicly around the same time as Călin Georgescu, and their ideas, which circulate in precious terms actually some conspiracy theories, harm the credibility of AUR, especially the international one,” said one of the sources. The man from AUR recalled that Piperea also opposed the party's too much attachment to the image and ideas of Georgescu, image and ideas that now, the man from AUR claims, continue through the increased presence of Dungaciu. “Dungaciu is not a conservative, he is an influencer”, stated one of the people from AUR, explaining what is happening, in his opinion.

What Dungaciu said about the fall of communism

In Marius Tucă's recent show, Dan Dungaciu started his answer from 1989-1990, the years of the fall of communism. He gave the example of the reunification of Germany and the collapse of the Ceaușescu regime in Romania. The politician said that the transition of countries from the former “socialist camp” to democracy was only possible because “Gorbachev betrayed his allies and said: I don't care what you want.” “Ceaușescu used to say about Gorbachev that he was a traitor, and in a way he was,” said Dungaciu.

According to the opinion of the first vice-president of the AUR, it was not the citizens of the communist countries who said: we don't want to live like this anymore, but two presidents, that of the USSR and the USA, forced them to change the world, as they both wanted.

Trump negotiates Ukraine and leaves it to the Russians”

According to the same model of the decisions of the big ones above the people's heads, through which Dan Dungaciu explains the historical movements, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin agreed today regarding Ukraine, claims the first vice-president of the AUR.

“Trump is negotiating Ukraine and leaving it to the Russians. Just like Gorbachev gave the Germans the GDR. In essence, it's about the same thing,” Dungaciu said.

Tuca: Are you convinced that they decided this in Alaska?

Dungaciu, AUR: Maybe in 50 years we will find out that Alaska was the second Yalta.

Dungaciu said he hopes people will clear up sooner than half a century what the real Trump-Putin deal was in Alaska.

AUR leader believes EU 'only has budget'

Another belief of the new AUR first vice-president, Dan Dungaciu, is that “Israel will attack Iran and America will protect Israel”.

Regarding Europe, during the show Dungaciu said that the European Union is “ridiculous”, that Americans laugh at Europeans”. The EU is only “a budget” and “has no idea”. The politician said that any attempt at political or military unification is, in fact, against European citizens. “It does not assure us that Russia will not attack us.” “All decisions will move to Brussels” and “the Romanians will become pawns with three horns”, concluded Dan Dungaciu.
