Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan reaffirmed, on Tuesday evening, that he has no intention of resigning and explained how he reached the current political crisis.
“We worked well in the first months, when we were in a position to take measures to increase taxes, because it was a condition not to block the European funds. When we moved on to measures from the administration, all decisions were already taken with the handbrake pulled. They were not satisfied, because they saw that they had no electoral effects. The budget reserve fund was no longer a piggy bank, and the local barons from the PSD had a state of dissatisfaction. You're trying to get rid of someone who imposed some rules”said Ilie Bolojan to ProTV News.
He also stated that, in the conditions in which the PSD ministers will resign, the holders of the other portfolios will take over the responsibility of these ministries.
“We will see in the coming days what will happen. It is a pulverized parliament, it is difficult to make majorities. If on Thursday the PSD ministers retire, we are prepared to replace them with the other ministers. We have high priorities such as the completion of major construction sites, so as not to lose European money. All the sacrifices made for a year would be lost”said Ilie Bolojan.
The prime minister also stated that he had a direct discussion with the president, in which he expressed his firm position on remaining in office.
“I had this discussion with Mr. President. I informed him that I will not resign”said the prime minister.
He explained that he would consider leaving office only under certain conditions, which, in his opinion, are not currently met.
“If there was a financial reserve and I knew that, by changing one person, all things are solved, if Romania's problems disappear […] if there are some solutions presented by the Social Democratic Party and if they put them on the table, everything will be solved, but they did not propose any solution”he stated.
We remind you that the National Political Bureau of the PNL and the parliamentary groups of the PNL adopted, on Tuesday, unanimously, a resolution in which they express their firm support for the continuation of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and for the completion of the assumed reforms.
President Nicușor Dan called for Wednesday, April 22, consultations with political parties and parliamentary formations, based on constitutional prerogatives, in the context of the crisis in the governing coalition. The meetings will take place at the Cotroceni Palace, throughout the day.
