The vigil will take place at the Hermitage Sunătria, where Matthew is laid to rest and where those who knew him can pay their last respects.
After 14:00, the coffin will be taken to the Buciumeni – Fălticeni Monastery, where the funeral service will take place on Saturday morning.
According to the latest information, the three victims admitted to the hospital in Suceava have been extubated, and the medical personnel specify that the evolution of their state of health is favorable, under close supervision.
Matei was 14 years old and the son of a priest from the Vatra Dornei area. He died as a result of the serious accident in which the car driven by his mother plunged into the Bistrita riverbed. The child was in the back seat, and the impact was extremely violent. Doctors made sustained efforts to save him, but his heart failed in the hospital, despite complex surgeries and the mobilization of medical personnel.
Matei was one of the family's five children and was going to participate, together with his brothers, in the Epiphany service officiated by their father, just a few kilometers from the scene of the tragedy. In a slight bend, the woman lost control of the steering wheel, and the car broke the railing of the bridge and fell into the riverbed. Witnesses say there was dust on the road.
Doctors from the Suceava County Hospital stated that two of the surviving children, 3 and 8 years old, are stable, but their brothers, 17 years old and one year old respectively, are still in serious condition in Intensive Care. The children's mother also underwent surgery and remains hospitalized with a poor prognosis.
