At least 40 people were killed in the US attack on Venezuela on Saturday, a Venezuelan official in Maduro's government says, according to The New York Times.

The official said the dead included civilians and military personnel. At least one of the civilians was killed in a US airstrike outside Caracas, the same source told the NYT.

Immediately after the US attack, details began to emerge of the death of a Venezuelan civilian in Catia La Mar, a low-income coastal area west of the Caracas airport. There, an airstrike hit a three-story civilian apartment complex and destroyed an exterior wall early Saturday as US forces stormed the town.

President Donald Trump said Friday on Fox News that no American soldiers had been killed. He suggested, however, that some members of the army were injured.

“The fact that no one was killed is incredible,” the US president said. “Two men were injured but they are back and in good condition,” he added.

Later, the head of the US General Staff, General Dan Caine, said in a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, alongside Trump, that the US helicopters moving to extract President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were attacked. He said one helicopter had been hit but “remained airworthy” and that all US aircraft had “returned home”.

Two American officials, who wished to remain anonymous, told the American publication that about six soldiers were wounded in the operation to capture the Venezuelan president.

The “Absolut Resolve” operation carried out by the US to capture Nicolas Maduro was one of the most risky in the history of US special forces. All the details about the mission in the link below.
