Balance sheet at the beginning of the year: What Ștefan Radu Oprea says did not go well in 2025

The Secretary General of the Government, Ștefan Radu Oprea, states that the year 2025 brought several important achievements for the public administration, but admits that there is also a long list of things that could have been done better. The statements were made on Saturday, in a post on Facebook, in which Oprea presented a balance sheet of his activity, both as head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery and as Secretary General of the Government.

“What did we achieve? At the Chancellery, to introduce Romania's amendments to the SAFE Regulation. This time we had an offensive position and through the combative spirit of our ambassador from RepRo Brussels, Iulia Matei, we were given an example of good practice, the Commission mentioning Romania's organizational model in this field”. Oprea wrote.
According to him, the submitted amendments allow Romania to finance through the SAFE mechanism both infrastructure projects, including highways through military mobility, as well as military equipment, such as infantry fighting vehicles or assault weapons.
As Secretary General of the Government, Oprea says that one of the most important achievements was the completion of the selection for the leadership of AMEPIP and the recovery of significant European funds.
“At the General Secretariat, together with my colleagues, we managed to finalize the selection for the management of AMEPIP and save the 330 million euros arrears from payment request 3. We succeeded despite the many unfortunate statements regarding corporate governance that did not help either in the dialogue with the OECD or with the Commission”, he also sent it.
At the same time, Oprea admits that there are aspects that could have been managed more efficiently.
“Here the list is always long, especially if you are a perfectionist. However, there are more than 46,000 documents that go through the General Secretariat of the Government every year, and most of them also end up on my desk”he specified.
In the coming period, one of its priorities is the digitization of the activity of the General Secretariat of the Government.
“We are ready for the digitization of the processes in SGG, which by simplification should make the work easier for all of us. And I will try to stop the departure of competent people from SGG, despite the decrease in income”Oprea added.
The Secretary General of the Government also rejects the idea that budget workers are overpaid.
“The myth that budget workers are sinecures and receive a lot of money for little work does not fit at SGG. As far as I know, we are in the lower area of the salary level (no. 56 out of 75 institutions)”he emphasized.
Finally, Ștefan Radu Oprea also mentioned the registration of the BlueSpace Technology brand, used to launch the prototype of the 4×4 VLAH armored fighting vehicle, as an example of performance achieved in Romania.
“Performance can be achieved in Romania both in the private sector and in the state, where Transgaz achieved the highest increase in returns on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, over 180%”, concluded Oprea.
