There is a shortage of pellets throughout Poland. The Minister of Energy does not rule out intervention


Residents of various parts of Poland are raising alarm about the shortage of pellets as fuel. “I checked all possible construction stores,” one of the readers complained to Kontakt24. There is also information about increased product prices in places where it is available. A reader of WP Finanse drew attention to the fact that Pellet prices in some cases reach up to PLN 3,000. PLN per tonne.

Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka said at a conference in the Sejm that “the government does not regulate pellet prices” and such practices by sellers may require the action of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
The Minister of Energy does not rule out intervention, but lists the conditions
— If the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection detects disturbances on the pellet market, intervention will be undertaken in the future, together with the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), said Miłosz Motyka, quoted by PAP Biznes. He also pointed out that prices are also influenced by the market situation related to the availability of pellets.
– We hope that these prices will stabilize, which is also influenced by the situation of lower availability of this raw material and, at the same time, much higher consumption – said the minister. He added that he did not rule out possible state intervention in the future, aimed at increasing the quantity of the product on the market. However, it depends on actual “market disturbances”.

Pellet shortages are confirmed by sellers all over the country. Wood pellets are currently unavailable in online stores of large chains such as Castorama, Obi or Leroy Merlin. Internet users exchange information about individual bags of fuel on social media. Some people point out that they were forced to replace the heating source in accordance with EU directives and Polish anti-smog regulations, and now they have a serious problem. Especially since winter is not letting up and many people now have trouble heating their homes with ecological pellets.
