About a hundred people were stuck in the Moro Pass area, at an altitude of about 2,800 meters, in the commune of Macugnaga, in the Italian region of Piedmont, after the cable car they were in hit the barrier of the arrival station, reports Euronews.
The accident happened around 11:25 local time. The cable car carrying 94 tourists and five employees did not stop at the planned point, hitting the barrier of the arrival station. Six people were injured in the accident, luckily none seriously.
The ski slopes were closed and the cable car was shut down. The mountain rescue teams, the emergency service, the carabinieri and the firemen intervened on the scene. People were evacuated by helicopter as the cable car could no longer be used.

The Macugnaga cable car was built in 1962 and underwent a major overhaul in early 2023, replacing the motors, pulleys and cabins. The works cost two million euros, of which 1.8 million were financed by the Piedmont Region and 200,000 euros by the municipality of Macugnaga.
“We had a technical incident. We are making assessments, and from the first information it appears that the installation did not decelerate properly when entering the station and hit the station barrier,” explained Filippo Besozzi, administrator of Macugnaga Trasporti e Servizi, the company that manages the cable car.
