So many Poles received unwanted gifts for Christmas

SW Research for Allegro shows that two out of three people (67%) admit that in recent years they have received unwanted Christmas gifts. Most often, it happens occasionally – 34% of respondents declare that they experience it sometimes, but for a quarter it is quite frequent.
And why are the gifts unsuccessful? Four out of ten respondents admit that the problem is that they do not match their taste, while almost every third (28%) receives things that are very similar to those they already have.
Most Poles receive unwanted gifts, but only some of them end up in the second circulation. 15% of respondents admit that they resell or give away such gifts, while 45% still keep them – even though they do not use them.
That's how much unwanted gifts are worth
Unwanted gifts have real financial value – we read in the Allegro study. Three out of ten respondents estimate that the value of unsuccessful Christmas gifts ranges from PLN 101 to PLN 200, and 29% indicate the amount is PLN 51-100. At the same time, every eighth respondent (12%) estimates this cost at PLN 201-500, and 5% believe that it exceeds PLN 500 per year. 14% of Poles cannot determine the value of unwanted gifts they receive. The most frequently considered waste items are clothes and accessories (37%), cosmetics and perfumes (30%), home and garden decorations (28%), as well as books (17%) and jewelry (16%).
The popular platform reports that the “Sell an unwanted gift” campaign is starting on Allegro Lokalnie, during which you can resell less liked gifts. During this period, the platform records a significant increase in the number of new advertisements, especially in the categories of Culture and Entertainment (approx. +18%) and Sports and Tourism (over +17%).
Allegro Lokalnie observes the highest seller activity at the beginning of January, with the peak in the number of new ads just after Epiphany – we read in the report.
