Railway traffic stopped in Bistrita-Năsăud, after a woman died after being hit by a train. Two sets are late

A fatal railway accident in Bistrița-Năsăud county led to the blocking of traffic and delays of some trains.

Railway traffic on the Lunca Ilvei – Ilva Mare section, in Bistrita-Năsăud county, was stopped during the evening of Monday, December 29, following an accident in which a woman lost her life, the National Railway Company CFR SA announced in a statement.
Two passenger trains traveling on the Iași Regional Railway Branch experienced significant delays as a result of the incident.
“Following the checks carried out on the spot by the representatives of the Ilva Mică Railway Transport Police, it was confirmed the presence of a female person, foreign to the railway activity, deceased, at railway kilometer 26+990”, it is stated in the official press release of the CFR.
Following the accident, train IR 1831, operated by CFR Călători, was stopped at Ilva Mare station at 17:44, and train R 10535, belonging to Interregional Călători, could not leave Lunca Ilvei station at 17:29.
The company specifies that the resumption of rail traffic will only take place after the completion of on-site investigations.
The Bistrita-Năsăud County Police Inspectorate reported that the incident was reported by the traffic clerk from the Lunca Ilvei station.
“This afternoon, the police officers of the Ilva Mică Railway Transport Police Station were alerted by the traffic clerk from the Lunca Ilvei CF station regarding the fact that a woman was found unconscious in the gauge of the railway. At the scene, the police officers found that a 59-year-old woman from Ilva Mare, who had traumatic injuries most likely caused by a railway accident, was deceased”, stated IPJ Bistrita-Năsăud.
As a result of the tragedy, the police prepared a criminal investigation file for manslaughter and ordered a forensic examination to establish the exact circumstances in which the incident occurred.
