Vera Alentova, the star of the Soviet film “Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears”, an Oscar-winning film, passed away at the age of 83, the Pushkin Theater announced on Thursday, reports the EFE agency, reported by Agerpres.
“Our pain is boundless”, says the statement, which mentions that the actress Vera Alentova has worked at the theater in Moscow for the last 60 years.
Alentova acted in many feature films, but her most important role, which catapulted her to fame, was in “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”, which received the Oscar in 1981. This was the third Soviet film to win the Oscar for the best foreign film.
Born in 1942, the actress made her film debut in 1965 with “Days of Flight” and starred in about 30 films throughout her career.
In the last years of his life, he dedicated himself to acting in television series, published an autobiography and taught acting courses.
The actress suffered a devastating blow four years ago, with the death of her husband, Vladimir Menşov, the director of the film “Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears”, due to the coronavirus.
