The Athens-based World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) is demanding that the Greek authorities withdraw consent to renovate Crown Iris, a cruise ship affiliated with the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), at the Greek shipyard in Piraeus.

The WFTU said it would oppose any repairs or maintenance work carried out on the Crown Iris in Greece and appealed to Greek trade unions operating in ports to remain on strike readiness and not to participate in any work that makes it easier for the ship to approach repair quays.
Crown Iris, operated by the Israeli cruise line Mano Maritime, was used to evacuate civilians during this year's Israel-Iran war. According to Greek trade unions, the cruise ship transported Israeli soldiers to Crete in August.
Breaking away from the killing, they walk around Greece as tourists singing songs such as Death to the Arabs and Gaza is a Cemetery – as the Greek teachers' union (ELME), protesting against the visit at the time, put it in a statement.
Cruises in a similar vein Crown Iris described WFTU in a statement posted on its website Tuesday: “The Israeli military uses this cruise ship to offer moments of relaxation to Israeli soldiers before they return to continue their criminal activities”.
In 2019, Crown Iris underwent a major refurbishment at a Greek shipyard, with a complete redesign, all cabins renovated, five restaurants installed, and a basketball court and waterslide added. (PAP)
