A psychologist explained why people use their phones instead of sleeping

25 May 17:50

The desire to sit on your phone at night can be due to stress, anxiety and lack of time for yourself. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to psychologist Kristina Morozova.

According to the specialist, this behavior is called sleep procrastination. A person is tired and understands that he needs to go to bed, but instead he watches TV shows, scrolls through social networks, or spends a long time on gadgets.

Using your phone can trigger a release of dopamine. It is often called the pleasure hormone. Because of this, a person gradually develops the habit of taking a gadget before bed, even if it interferes with normal rest.

Among other reasons, Kristina Morozova named a lack of personal time during the day, high levels of stress and anxiety. In such cases, sitting on the phone at night can become an attempt to distract yourself and reduce stress a little.

However, this habit reduces the quality of sleep and can increase fatigue the next day.
