The doctor warned drivers about the danger of “residual” intoxication

After the New Year holidays, many car owners are wondering how long it will take to get behind the wheel after a feast. Therapist at the Yamal Center for Public Health, Vera Nazarova, recalled that “residual” intoxication is no less dangerous than strong intoxication, and threatens with serious consequences.

“Even a minimal dose of alcohol affects reaction speed, concentration and coordination of movements. A driver with a blood alcohol content of only 0.2 ppm risks receiving the same fine as a very drunk one: 30 thousand rubles and deprivation of his license for one and a half to two years,” writes Sever-Press.

According to the doctor, the popular “alcohol withdrawal tables” provide only approximate data, since they do not take into account the individual characteristics of the body, the quality of the snack and activity after drinking alcohol. The average rate of alcohol elimination is about 0.1 ppm per hour, but this is an average figure.

You shouldn't rely on these numbers. If you drank the day before, it is better to use a breathalyzer or postpone the trip altogether. After deprivation of the driver’s license, he will have to retake the exam at the traffic police, where the requirements will be especially strict.

The doctor emphasizes that the permissible 0.16 ppm is the norm for natural processes in the body, and not permission to “drink a little.” The only safe option is to drive completely sober.
