Sometimes you can find advice on the Internet that raises doubts, but in reality turns out to work quite well. One of these life hacks is wrapping a grater in cellophane.
The author of the blog “Kitchen Inside Out” (18+) shared this method a long time ago, but then many were skeptical about it. However, now, judging by the reviews, this method is used quite often, which confirms its effectiveness.
How to grate garlic without the hassle of washing the grater
If you don’t have a garlic press at hand or don’t want to bother with a knife, you can use a simple tool. This option is especially helpful at the dacha, where people often forget to buy a press.
Take a regular fine grater and pull a plastic bag over it. Rub the garlic on the side where the small holes are. After this, remove the bag, as a result, all the garlic mass will remain on it, and the grater will be clean. Simply rinse it with water.
Not ideal, but helps
Bags are not the best option from an environmental point of view, and a garlic press is generally more convenient. You can also grate the garlic without a bag, and then wash the grater thoroughly. However, in some situations this method is useful.
Personal experience
I've been coming back to this trick periodically for several years now. It is especially helpful when you need to squeeze the juice out of garlic for a marinade or sauce. It happens that the garlic press is lost somewhere, and fiddling with a knife and cutting board is downright lazy. And at such moments, the good old bag with a grater never let me down.
