The board of directors of the Kennedy Center, where the president brought allies during a sweeping takeover earlier this year, decided last week to add Trump's name to the institution's name, startling Democrats and raising questions about the legality of the change.

The board of directors voted to rename the iconic building in Washington The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing ArtsTrump Kennedy Center for short, writes Agerpres.

“Christmas Eve Jazz Jam (Cancelled)”he wrote on the institution's website on Wednesday evening.

“I chose to cancel our Christmas Eve jazz concert at the Kennedy Center when I saw the name change last Friday”said the show's host, musician Chuck Redd.

After the Associated Press initially reported the cancellation, CNN reported that Redd, a drummer and vibraphonist who has performed the concert since 2006, has no current plans to reschedule the show.

Trump was eager to make his mark on Washington, adding his name to various buildings. His critics say he tried to compromise traditional American institutions by installing loyalists and threatening funding. Trump has said he is addressing what he calls the liberal bias of these institutions.

Donald Trump fired board members appointed by then-president Joe Biden, took over the board and installed Richard Grenell, a longtime ally and former ambassador to Germany, as the center's president.
