On Friday night, at the match in the Paulist Cup semifinals, the Brazilians introduced a new tool, Football Video Support (FVS), in an attempt to revolutionize or improve the lime system with new measures and rules, but it is still in the testing phase.
This happened at the match between commercial and XV by Piracicaba, score 1-1, and it was an initiative of the Brazilian Football Federation, according to Abola.pt.
Brazilians test new measures to improve video arbitration
The objective is to use the technology of VAR only at the request of the coach, when it considers that there was an error in four possible situations: empty, penalty, direct red card or card applied to the wrong player, situations already provided in the ordinary protocol.
Each coach is entitled to only two requests, which are made by a gesture, rotating the finger in the air, and then by handing a white request to the arbitration team.
Once received, the referee is heading to the cabin next to the ground to see the phase on a screen. After analysis, it maintains or changes the decision and, if it agrees with that of the coach, it does not lose one of the two requests, as in Futsal.
The difference is that there is no video referee here, that is lime. The referee himself analyzes the situation alone on the rooms, although the fourth arbitrator can verify the situation, without requests from the coach, in the case of goals or punishment at the end of a eliminator.
This model has already been tested by FIFA at the 2024 Women's Women's World Championship, and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has already announced that this tool will be used in the Brazil Cup for women's football, but only starting with the quarterfinals.
As for the match on Friday, the first request for a coach was made in the 31st minute, to report a penalty, and the referee ended up by granting him, but not that of the opponent, during the second half. In the extensions, a third request appeared, this time not to grant the penalty, but the referee has maintained his initial decision.
