I plant once and collect before frost: three varieties of tomatoes for a lazy bed – they grow even in partial shade

Not all tomatoes are equally productive. Some die from late blight already in July, others require constant pinching, and others do not set fruit well without bright sun. But there are varieties that show stable results even with minimal care. They are suitable even for a small bed near a barn or under a tree and produce a harvest until frost.

Siberian early ripening

Proven variety for cool climates. The fruits ripen within 85–90 days after germination, even if the summer is rainy. The tomatoes are round, dense, 80–100 g each, with a bright sweet and sour taste. Great for salads and canning. Resistant to major diseases, does not require pinching, the bush forms itself.

Bonsai

A compact bush 30–40 cm high, but the yield is up to 3 kg per plant. The fruits are small and very sweet. Grows well in the shade, in a bucket on the balcony or near the fence. Even with infrequent watering it produces a stable harvest. Ideal for processing or fresh consumption.

De Barao red or yellow

A variety that continues to bear fruit longer than others, even with short daylight hours and cool weather. The fruits are dense, do not crack, and are stored well. Suitable for pickling, tomato paste and winter preparations. One bush can produce crops for more than 2 months in a row.

These three varieties cover different tasks: early harvest in cold regions, compact option for small areas and long-term fruiting for harvesting. They do not need a greenhouse, daily care or frequent treatments; just plant, mulch the soil and water as needed.
