Tehran is ready for war and peace. “The ball is in the USA's court”

“Events have shown that the United States has not kept any promises or agreements,” Asadi said, adding that “surprising actions have been prepared for the enemy, beyond his imagination.”

Tehran is ready for both scenarios

On Friday, Iran submitted a new proposal for an agreement to the American authorities through Pakistan, without revealing its details. Trump, however, declared that he was “not satisfied” with it.

Regardless of whether it is a continuation of the war or diplomatic actions, Tehran is “ready” for both scenarios, and “the ball is in the court of the United States,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, quoted by CNN.

Iranian state media confirmed its tough stance on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that Tehran controls it.

“By dominating and controlling almost 2,000 km of Iran's coastline in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy will make these waters a source of sustenance and strength for the people of Iran and a source of security and prosperity for the region,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Deadlock in negotiations

The U.S.-Iran ceasefire went into effect on April 8, after nearly 40 days of Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory attacks in the region.

Since then, Trump has repeatedly demanded the restoration of freedom of navigation through Hormuz. Iranian officials maintain that the strait will remain under Iranian control, which would mean, among other things, the need to coordinate the transit of ships with the Iranian authorities. This would be a fundamental change compared to the situation before the war, when navigation was free and without restrictions.

Negotiations on a permanent end to the war have reached an impasse: direct talks in Islamabad on April 11 failed to achieve a breakthrough, and differences between the parties – from the status of Hormuz to nuclear issues – remain significant.

The talks between the Iranian and US delegations scheduled for the previous weekend in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, did not take place.
