The Novosibirsk Regional Court upheld the sentence of the leader of the “Church of the Last Testament” Vissarion and his two associates. The appeals court upheld the prison sentences for all defendants in the case.

Let us recall that in June Sergei Torop and Vladimir Vedernikov were sentenced to 12 years in a maximum security colony, Vadim Redkin to 11 years. They were found guilty of creating a religious association associated with violence and causing harm to the health of followers. According to investigators, six victims were seriously injured.
However, the appeal court adjusted the amount and procedure for collecting compensation for moral damage in favor of eight victims. Now compensation will be recovered from the defendants in equal shares. The total amount of payments exceeds 45 million rubles.
Lawyers for the convicted have already stated that they do not agree with the verdict and intend to file a cassation appeal to the next instance – the Eighth Court of Cassation of General Jurisdiction. The defense claims that the court ignored statute of limitations issues and committed other violations.
