The Krasnoyarsk Rosselkhoznadzor called the popular mistakes of summer residents when choosing seedlings

Specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory told why you should not choose the most tall fruit trees for planting. Many summer residents make this mistake, in the hope that the seedling will grow faster and begin to bear fruit.

“In fact, such seedlings, as a rule, are 3-4 years old, not only will not begin to bear fruit earlier, but will also lag behind the development of younger plants,” said Anna Bespalova, deputy chief of the department for seed production, safety and quality of the Rosselkhoznadzor control grain in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

All because adult seedlings have already formed a powerful root system. It cannot be dug without damage. For example, a three -year -old plant will leave about 80 % of the roots in the ground. And in them there are most of the suction roots. The rest of the system is not enough to fully feed the young tree.

“Therefore, it is best to choose seedlings of apple trees, pears – two years of age, and, for example, plums, apricot and cherries, it is better to plant it with us a little -year -old,” Bespalova noted.

Experts advised to visually evaluate the quality of planting material when buying. If the seedling has an open root system, then its length should be at least 20-25 cm. Healthy roots grow in all directions, they have no damage. Color is light. The roots themselves are elastic, do not break and do not crack during the bend. The kidneys should be alive, swollen, but the leaves should not be dissolved, otherwise the plant will quickly lose moisture.

If the seedling has a closed root system, do not forget to inspect the container. It should have holes. Inspect the roots – they should also have a healthy light color. Ask the seller for permission to take the seedling by the barrel. Raise it in the container and shock it slightly. With a seedling who grew up in a container, nothing will happen.
