The Russians opened ticket sales at the Mariupol Drama Theater, where people died. They'll show a comedy there


“The so-called restored drama theater in Mariupol has opened the sale of tickets for children’s and adult performances, the occupiers report. The first performances are planned to be shown at the end of December. Thus, Mariupol residents are invited to the “enchanting comedy “Gorgeous Wedding.” And the children to the play “The Scarlet Flower”. The playbill also includes “The Frog Princess,” “The Town Musicians of Bremen” and “The Empress’s Favorite.”the message says.

Also, according to the City Council, a New Year tree has already been installed at the site where people died, including children, and they are planning to hold festive events.

Context

On March 16, 2022, after another bombing in Mariupol, a drama theater in which civilians were hiding from shelling was destroyed. After the bombing, the central part of the theater collapsed, and the entrance to the bomb shelter was blocked with debris. Satellite images from the American company Maxar Technologies recorded that near the theater on which the occupiers dropped a bomb, there were large inscriptions “Children”.

An Associated Press investigation published May 4 said the bombing of the theater killed nearly 600 people in and around the building.

May 20 Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol Petr Andryushchenko reported that the occupiers had completed clearing out the rubble of the drama theater. “Now we will never know how many Mariupol civilians were actually killed by the Russian bomb,” he said.

The international human rights organization Amnesty International conducted an investigation into the Russian attack on the drama theater in Mariupol and concluded that it was a war crime.
