Maria Valentina Pop Advances to Second Round After Wobker’s Disqualification
Maria Valentina Pop started strong, winning the first set 6-0. However, Wobker controlled the second set for a while, leading 5-3 and having multiple set points. Pop managed to save all of them, leveling the score at 5-5. As Pop reached 40-0, Wobker lost her composure, throwing her racket onto the ground. The racket rebounded and flew into the stands, leading to her disqualification.
Wobker retrieved her racket but did not continue playing. Following her unsporting conduct, the match concluded, and Pop advanced to the second round, where she will face either British player Daniella Britton or Argentina’s Sol Ailin Larraya Guidi, who is currently ranked 1468th in the WTA.
Wobker had a lead in the second set, but after a long game and numerous unforced errors, Pop managed to break serve. This led to Wobker’s critical mistake, ending the match abruptly.
