More than 20 people were evacuated, on Saturday, December 20, from a block of flats in Botoşani municipality, after a violent fire broke out in a studio apartment on the third floor, announced the representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU).

When the flames broke out, there was no one in the house, and the neighbors smelled smoke and called 112.
“In the shortest possible time, the firefighters from the Botoşani Detachment went to the scene, with a special fire truck, an SMURD ambulance, as well as a crew belonging to the Botoşani County Ambulance Service. When the rescue crews arrived, the goods inside the studio apartment were burning, with flames and large smoke emissions. The firefighters intervened quickly, so that the flames did not spread. They a fan was also used to evacuate the smoke from inside the block staircase. 24 people from the third and fourth floors were evacuated as a precaution”stated the ISU.

The owner of the apartment, aged 36, suffered a panic attack and received medical attention on the spot from the SMURD crew.
Firefighters also mentioned the probable cause of the fire: a short circuit.
