Ilie Bolojan explains why the report on the annulment of the elections remains secret: “You have to think about certain effects, what you are exposing”

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan explained, on Friday, why the report on the annulment of the elections has not been declassified yet, stating that such a procedure must be analyzed with great caution, because it can expose sensitive information.

Ilie Bolojan gave, on Friday, an interview on Europa FM, during which she was asked by a listener why the document was not made public in its entirety. He specified that the decision was taken by the Constitutional Court of Romania based on the data received and that, when a declassification is done, it must be analyzed very carefully what exactly is made public.
“When certain decisions are made, they are made on the basis of the data that was communicated, and the CCR, having the data that was published, made that decision (election annulment no). Based on the official data, the CCR made the decision. These official data were published. All the materials that have a status of service secrets can, at some point, be on a declassification form. But when you declassify, you have to think about certain effects, what you expose, and given that, for example, we have data, in certain documents, that would expose some Romanian intelligence officers related to one fact or another, I don't think it's right to expose them. I'm not referring to this case, I'm referring to it in general”the prime minister specified.
The statements come in the conditions where sources from Cotroceni claimed, a day ago, that the report on the cancellation of the 2024 elections could be published in April.
We remind you that in December 2024, the judges of the Constitutional Court decided to annul the results of the first round of the presidential elections on November 24, 2024, an unprecedented decision in Romania. At the time, SRI reported that former candidate Călin Georgescu had declared to the Permanent Electoral Authority a campaign budget of “zero lei”claiming that he did not spend any amount. Later, however, a user was identified who allegedly made donations of over one million euros.
Later, in December 2025, the Activity Report of the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country (CSAT) for the year 2024 received a favorable opinion, after it was analyzed by the committees assembled for defense, public order and national security in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
The document provides an overview of the security risks that marked the previous election year. According to the document, CSAT found in the meeting of November 28, 2024 the existence of major risks to national security, generated by state and non-state cyber actors. It explicitly emphasizes Moscow's interest in destabilizing Romania. Council members noted that there were cyber attacks aimed at “influencing the fairness of the electoral process”.
