The meeting of the leaders of PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR and the group of National Minorities is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 15:00 at the Government headquarters. It is the first meeting of the coalition after the local elections of December 7 and after PSD voted the simple motion initiated by AUR against the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu (USR).

The conjuncture alliance PSD-AUR, the hot topic on the coalition table

The meeting comes two days after the simple motion against the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu (USR), initiated by the AUR was adopted in the Senate with PSD votes. This PSD decision was categorized as a violation of the coalition agreement.

“From my point of view, this is how we behaved every time, if we have grievances, because they appear, you discuss in the coalition, you try to find a solution. If you stay in the coalition, you don't vote a motion, that's my approach,” said one of the leaders of the coalition, Kelemen Hunor, on Tuesday.

According to some sources who spoke to HotNews, the social democrats are waiting to see how the prime minister will position himself in the coalition meeting, because they do not rule out the possibility that Bolojan will break the coalition after this episode. The Prime Minister had no public reaction after the simple motion passed.

In article 19 of the protocol of the coalition it is written: “No parliamentarian, member of the parties and political formations that are part of the Coalition will sign, support or vote a simple motion directed against any member of the Government or a motion of censure against the Government”.

Asked on Tuesday at Parliament about this situation, PSD president Sorin Grindeanu recalled that he had discussed this situation with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, when he went to the Government and asked the Prime Minister to dismiss Buzoianu.

When the journalists insisted that the other leaders of the coalition should not also speak, Sorin Grindeanu pointed to the crisis in Paltinu that left several localities in Prahova without water.

“Don't you want to ask this question to the 120,000 people who ran out of water?” said the PSD president.

Local and central government reform: half-year negotiations

The leaders of the parties in the governing coalition must today reach a final agreement on the reform of the administration, so that the project can be adopted in due time. Government sources told HotNews that this project must be passed before the 2026 budget is approved (which is scheduled to take place towards the end of January).

Coalition leaders have repeatedly delayed a final decision on central and local government reform after the reform was originally supposed to be adopted in early September.

If the administration reform is not adopted before the formation of the budget, then the state budget law 2026 will be made taking into account the current laws, which would lead to unpredictability. The administration reform foresees job cuts and spending cuts.

According to some political sources, on the reform of the local public administration there is an agreement in principle between all the parties of the coalition, but there is still a need for discussions when it comes to the central administration.

PSD wants to increase the minimum wage, Ilie Bolojan says that a decision has already been made

During today's meeting, the PSD will also ask for an increase in the minimum wage from January 1, 2026, although Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan made it clear that the budget does not allow this.

HotNews reported as early as December 7, citing government sources, that the Bolojan Government is preparing an emergency ordinance project to maintain the minimum wage in the economy at the current level (4,050 lei gross) in 2026 as well.

On October 23, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced “an agreement in principle” in the coalition so that the current minimum wage per country, of 4,050 gross lei, will be maintained during the next year.

The PSD will also ask for the elimination of the tax on solariums in Wednesday's meeting, according to HotNews sources.
