“No Dan is a bluff-playing president if he comes up with proposals like this.” Ludovic Orban criticizes a new prime minister scenario

Three weeks after the dismissal of the Bolojan Government, President Nicușor Dan postpones the announcement of the designated prime minister, while the leader of Forța Dreptei, Ludovic Orban, says that the appointment ONE from people whose names are circulated would be a “political firecracker”.

The name of the future prime minister remains unknown, and the suspense in Cotroceni continues. Sources from the Presidential Administration told HotNews that the head of state will not make an announcement on Tuesday.

However, in the political environment, the version of Eugen Tomac, the president of PMP, is circulating more and more, but also the name of the presidential advisor Radu Burnete, Delia Velculescu (head of the IMF mission in South Africa), the interim Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, or Șerban Matei from the National Bank of Romania.

The scenario circulated in Cotroceni triggered a harsh reaction from former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, who criticizes a possible appointment of the PMP leader. A close associate of Traian Băsescu and his successor at the head of the PMP, Eugen Tomac was officially appointed honorary adviser to President Nicușor Dan in October 2025. In Orban's opinion, this fact would turn his appointment into a strictly personal assumption of the head of state.

“So somewhere in my nature, I would be happy to see the PSD supporting Traian Băsescu's emul, to see how Traian Băsescu lines up in support of a favorite supported by Traian Băsescu. Taking history into account, it would really be a supreme humiliation for the PSD to support a candidate for prime minister like Eugen Tomac, who, I repeat, is the political product of Traian Băsescu. And, so to speak so, Traian Băsescu's main man in the political representation”, Orban declared on Tuesday, on Digi24.

He believes that Nicușor Dan “must come up with a serious solution”. “Otherwise, he's not a player president, he's a bluff player president, if he comes up with such solutions. That would be a political firecracker, a frivolous proposal that would in no way meet the stated intentions of being able to invest a government that would ensure”.

If such a nomination were to be reached, we are talking about a political experiment, said Ludovic Orban, himself appointed presidential adviser to Cotroceni in October 2025 and released from office shortly after, in November 2025

“Definitely. Tell me when in the history of appointing candidates for the position of prime minister, a president removed from office a candidate for prime minister who had nothing to do with any of the parliamentary parties, without having an explicit agreement,” said Orban.

The former prime minister also provided examples from the past to support his arguments, recalling times when prime ministers from outside the major parties were appointed.

Orban explained that former Prime Minister Mugur Isărescu was accepted and supported by the parliamentary political parties after the fall of the Radu Vasile government. He also emphasized that in 2021, even if he had no chance, Dacian Cioloș was designated as an official proposal from the USR.
