The reactivation of the Military Medical Academy in Łódź next year and the creation of a center for military medicine and disasters in Lublin were announced by Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk. Our priority is the development of military medicine, he emphasized.

The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense participated on Wednesday in the opening of the new headquarters of the Neurosurgery Department at the Military Hospital in Lublin. This is the end of the investment in the extension of the hospital, which has also housed the Cardiology Department since last year. Approximately PLN 150 million was a subsidy from the Ministry of National Defense.
In Tomczyk's opinion, this hospital is important for NATO's eastern flank.
– We also use it to secure soldiers, to secure various types of missions that take place in our country and beyond – emphasized the deputy minister, adding that in the last several months this facility has received an additional PLN 50 million for equipment.
Ministry of National Defense: our priority is the development of military medicine
The deputy minister emphasized that “from our perspective, the development of military medicine is a priority.” Examples of the Ministry of National Defense's activities include: the creation of Medical Forces, the Medical Legion or the implementation of the Military-Friendly Hospitals project.
He also announced that the Military Medical Academy in Łódź will be reopened next year. As he said, the project on this matter is already ready and should be submitted to the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers in the coming weeks.
– Basic training for doctors is already available in Łódź, but it is carried out with the participation of the Medical University of Łódź. We want to maintain this cooperation, but also build capabilities for the army for the future, added Cezary Tomczyk in an interview with the media.
The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense also expects that a center for military medicine and disasters should be established in Lublin next year. In his opinion, such a center is needed in eastern Poland to train both military and civilian doctors.
– The experience gained from the Russian-Ukrainian war shows that the state must be prepared for every possible scenario (…). Most doctors who work in normal hospitals, e.g. district, provincial, city hospitals, have not even had contact with a gunshot wound for most of their professional lives. When we talk about crises, about the state of war – everything changes: time, ability to react, conditions. We want to do everything possible to help doctors prepare for this, explained the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense.
Tomczyk asked about a possible one network of underground hospitals in Poland he replied that he would not talk about “any plans that are classified.”
– The Ukrainian experience shows that everything that is built downwards is better from the point of view of a possible crisis than what is built above the ground – he described.
He assured that the government is trying to prepare the country for every possible scenario.
– This is why funds were allocated for population protection and civil defense; next year it will be another PLN 5 billion so that hospitals throughout Poland can build, for example, shelter places that can be used as operating rooms on a daily basis – described the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense.
An investment worth approximately PLN 150 million was completed in the Military Hospital in Lublin. Last year, a cardiology clinic began operating in the built-up part of the hospital above the main building. Now the part for the neurosurgery department has been put into use. His boss, MD. Michał Brzozowski reminded that the department has been operating since October 2020. For five years, approximately 3.8 thousand people have been treated here. patients.
– The number of patients was constantly increasing year by year. I hope that we will reach 900 patients this year, he added.
The department deals with the treatment of, among others: degenerative spine disease, cancer, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, peripheral nerve diseases and neuropathic pain.
The Military Hospital in Lublin has 300 beds for patients in several departments, including: surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and rehabilitation. The facility hospitalizes approximately 13,000 people annually. patients and provides 66 thousand outpatient advice. This facility is available to all residents of the Lublin region.
