International fraud: one million euro batteries of a company from Sibiu, stolen by two Georgians in France. How they acted

Two Georgian citizens are being investigated after they used the data of a transport company in Poland to conclude a contract with a company in Sibiu, with the aim of taking over four pallets of batteries from France. The goods did not reach their destination, and the Romanian company notified the authorities.

“On December 5th of this year, the police officers of the Sibiu Economic Crime Investigation Service were alerted by the administrator of a commercial company in Şelimbăr, regarding the fact that he had been misled by a company from Poland, with which he had concluded a contract, with the object of transporting 4 pallets of batteries from several locations in France to Athens, causing him damage in the amount of 1,000,000 of euros”announced the Sibiu County Police.

According to the police, on December 3 “the transport company changed the name of the driver and the truck used to transport the 4 pallets of batteries”.

“After loading the goods from the first location in France, the carrier did not show up at the second loading point, and, following the checks carried out, it turned out that the data of the Polish carrier was used to mislead the injured person to conclude the transport contract, subsequently the perpetrator appropriated the respective goods“, the press release states.

Checks showed that on December 5, the goods arrived at an address in Belgium. “As a result of the international judicial cooperation, the Belgian police identified, at the respective address, several pallets of cargo loaded from the first location from France, the value of which was set at 2,000,000 lei, two people involved in the theft of batteries being identified, namely two men from Georgia“, the authorities also sent.

The Romanian and Belgian police managed to find all the pallets with batteries, the damage recovered being in the amount of 5,000,000 lei.

The file is further investigated by the Economic Crime Investigation Service, under the supervision of the case prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Sibiu Court, for “fraud with particularly serious consequences”, aiming to identify all the people involved.
