In the coming days, a branch of the National Center “Russia” will open in Krasnoyarsk. This is the second of five pilot regional centers created throughout the country on behalf of the Russian President. One of the key locations of the EXPO zone will be the Museum of Siberian Heat – a modern multimedia space.
The Museum of Siberian Heat is a joint exhibition project of SUEK-Krasnoyarsk, SGK and the Melnichenko Foundation, dedicated to the role of coal energy in the life of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and all of Russia. Siberia is the heart of the country's coal industry: it accounts for more than 80% of all-Russian coal production. The largest coal basins are located here, and powerful coal mining enterprises SUEK-Krasnoyarsk operate: including the largest and only billionaire open-pit mine in Russia – Borodinsky. Over their history, they have produced more than 2 billion tons of brown coal.
“The Museum of Siberian Heat will present the most powerful coal mining enterprises in the region, which have been shaping the energy security of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for more than 75 years, ensuring the continuous operation of energy facilities and utility infrastructure,” said Evgeny Yevtushenko, General Director of JSC SUEK-Krasnoyarsk. “The exhibition will introduce the history of coal mines, talk about modern processes of coal mining and processing, allow Krasnoyarsk residents to better understand the significance and scale of the coal industry’s contribution to the socio-economic development of the region, to the development of industrial potential, to the common good and comfort of every resident, and will show the importance of the difficult work of our miners, who bring warmth and light to the homes of Siberians every day.”
Guests of the exhibition will be able to feel themselves in the shoes of miners and power engineers, without whom it is impossible to imagine the future of the Siberian regions: the central installation of the museum “River of Heat” will change colors and animation, “warming up” from the touch of visitors’ hands, acquiring increasingly warmer and brighter colors. Interactive games “Extraction” and “Generation” will allow you to immerse yourself in production processes, which will attract even the youngest guests of the exhibition.

At the “Heroes of Siberian Heat” site they will present a gallery of labor dynasties of SUEK-Krasnoyarsk and SGK enterprises. Many have a total work experience of more than 200 years, and for the “richest” dynasty it reaches almost 500 years. The lounge area will unobtrusively involve tourists in one of the very first and most important processes of mining – exploration of the earth's interior: here you can take original selfies, for example, with a dinosaur or in the style of a Soviet poster about geologist.
One of the main exhibits of the location will be the development of Krasnoyarsk coal mining scientists – thermocoke, which is produced at the Berezovsky open-pit mine. It serves as the basis for innovative products such as smokeless fuel briquettes for metallurgy and housing and communal services, sorbent for oil refining and water treatment, and lining material for the aluminum industry.
“The Museum of Siberian Heat is the most modern look at an industry that has ensured the sustainability and development of Siberian cities for decades. We wanted to create a space where technology, history, human destinies and the energy of Siberia are united into a single fascinating image of the future. We are confident that our museum will become one of the most popular sites of the Rossiya National Center in the Krasnoyarsk Territory,” said Tatyana Zhuravleva, General Director of the Melnichenko Foundation.
“The opening of our exposition at the Rossiya National Center in Krasnoyarsk practically coincided with the launch of the second power unit of the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 – an important and significant moment for Siberia and Russia as a whole. This event inspires us to create a space where every guest can understand how the work of energy workers affects everyday life. We are confident that the “Museum of Siberian Heat” will become an important part of the cultural life of the city and will attract the attention of both local residents and guests of Krasnoyarsk,” said Oleg Bubnovsky, General Director of the Yenisei TGC (a division of the SGC in the Yenisei Siberia region).
“Our key task as a design studio was not just to create an interactive experience, but to translate the meaning of the coal industry into the language of personal, tactile experience. In the flow of energy of the river, the visitor can touch the Siberian warmth,” shared Mikhail Kabatov, creative director of the “Museum of Siberian Heat” project, partner of the radugadesign studio. — Why multimedia? Because energy is a story about transformation and movement: from ancient forests to coal, from coal to light in the windows. A static exhibit cannot convey this. But a dynamic, human-responsive environment can.”
Anyone will be able to see the unique exhibition “Museum of Siberian Heat” very soon. It will work in the EXPO zone “People’s Energy – Energy of the Krasnoyarsk Territory” within the walls of the opening Krasnoyarsk branch of the National Center “Russia” on the Yenisei embankment, st. Dubrovinsky 1i. You can visit it absolutely free by prior registration on the Center’s website.
