“Anxiety” named the word of 2025 in Russia

Internet users, during a vote on the website of the book chain “Read-Gorod,” named “anxiety” the word of the year – 2025. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the press service of the project.
Voting lasted from April to December. The word “anxiety” received the most votes at 36%, “reflecting the emotional state of society” this year, it said.
“Anxiety” competed with words such as “faith”, “agreement”, “cringe”, “peace”, “love”, etc.
Voting participants chose candidates in four categories: “Humanitarian Sphere”, “Technosphere”, “Slang” and “National Word”.
Thus, in the sphere of “Slang” the word “okak” won, and the meme with a surprised cat in a hoodie has thus become a modern universal linguistic reaction.
In the “Technosphere” direction, the leader of the vote was the word “prompt”, which means short instructions for artificial intelligence.
“AI” itself won in the “Humanitarian Sphere” category, outlining the role of artificial intelligence as a cultural and social phenomenon.
